Pulzar Z+
Solid State Refractive Laser

A diode-pumped Nd:YAG laser converted to 213nm through three nonlinear crystals, correcting myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism, and presbyopia without toxic gases or gas cylinders. Built on technology used by surgeons internationally,
with results presented at the Congress of the ESCRS.

Product Features

This design is built on more than 20 years of development and US$50 million in investment by CV Laser, with a track record of excellent clinical outcomes and minimal breakdown. That same solid state design removes the need for toxic gas and the gas cavity replacement that conventional excimer lasers require, along with the cost and downtime that comes with it. The system runs on low, single-phase power, with a fast start-up time and no restriction on how many procedures you perform.

A beam smaller than 1mm is needed to correct the finest corneal irregularities, and the smaller the spot, the higher the resolution of treatment. The Pulzar’s 0.6mm Gaussian shaped flying spot allows fine, smooth sculpting of the cornea.
Independent research published in the Archives of Ophthalmology found that the 213nm wavelength is absorbed far less by balanced salt solution and saline than the 193nm excimer wavelength. This means less need for the strict hydration monitoring that excimer procedures require.

Fast, accurate eye tracking is essential for precise treatment positioning. Our system uses two tracking systems together, ZTRAK and GAZETRAK, to track and compensate for eye movement throughout the procedure.

  • ZTRAK is a limbal based tracking system, running as a 1kHz closed loop. Tracking from the limbus, rather than the pupil, keeps an accurate, stable reference point throughout the ablation. Because it does not rely on the pupil, no pupil dilation is required, removing the risk of decentration from pupil movement.
  • GAZETRAK monitors the angle of the patient’s gaze and automatically pauses the laser if that gaze shifts, resuming only once the correct gaze direction is restored. Together, this helps prevent decentred ablation, supporting more predictable, reliable refractive outcomes, a finding consistent with clinical data presented at the Congress of the ESCRS.

Every patient’s eye is different, which is why we built ZCAD, our surgical planning software. ZCAD combines topography, wavefront analysis, pupil size, pachymetry, and refractive data to build an individually customised treatment plan for each patient.
ZCAD also uses pattern recognition to determine each patient’s cyclorotation, the way the eye can rotate slightly between the upright position during the pre-operative scan and the supine position on the treatment table. It compares reference images of the iris and limbal blood vessel pattern from both positions, then rotates the treatment plan to compensate, so the ablation aligns accurately with the corneal surface.
